"Regenbogen Kids"

This group of our youngest learners is supervised by a competent team. In the year they turn four German speaking children may join the Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg as Regenbogen Kids in Kindergarten 0. They are the youngest of 160 Regenbogen children.
In Kindergarten 1 and in the Pre-school the aim is to prepare the learners for the first grade. The main focus of pre-school education is on language training. Not all children who join the Regenbogen Kids come from a solely German background, and some even arrive not knowing any German at all. Therefore, they are divided according to their language level into different kindergarten and pre-school classes.
This method proved itself in the last years: the children made such good progress that in grade 1 they could be integrated with the German mother-tongue group.
Since January 2006 the children of the four pre-school classes proudly walk up to the new Regenbogen building to start their lessons. This building with its large, bright classrooms and integrated toilets meets European standards. Besides an experimental kitchen for the children, there is also a large hall for sports and music teaching. All classrooms are equipped with imported games and craft material.
The Regenbogen team consists of eight colleagues supported by six assistants. Consequently, "quality from the outset" can be ensured.
